The journey really began a few years ago. I was bored at work and stumbled across a blog called Mister Money Mustache. It was life-changing to say the least. I devoured every single word of it. The guy was really onto something. But was it feasible for me? I didn't care. I was going to try.
Fast forward a few years. We are by no means financially independent. Not even close. In fact, from a financial standpoint we are probably worse off than we were when I stumbled upon that blog. We've got a sizable mortgage and only one of us is working full-time. One of us, yours truly, was let go from full-time employment a few months ago. But the Bliss Meter? It's through the roof! I haven't done a full analysis yet so I'm not sure what it means for the plan. It certainly changes it, that's for sure. But that's how life goes, doesn't it?
I now work for myself as a Virtual Assistant. I've got a growing roster of clients that are really just awesome! I work from home which yes, sometimes does mean in my pyjamas. I can work from pretty much anywhere as long as I have internet access. Which is one idea I have about funding the big bike trip. It's just an idea at this point, I haven't put any concrete thought into exactly how it would play out. That will come.
We don't have a goal date in mind. It used to be when I turned 50 which is just six short years away. I'm still holding onto that number and I think it might even be attainable. Hard to say while my working life is in transition.
What you're going to read in the days and months to come are my ramblings (hopefully some of them might even be coherent!) about what's going on in our day to day lives and how we're progressing towards packing up the panniers and exploring this great big ol' world!
